About the project
“We reject the library as a space of silence. The fixity of printed word is made alive by the spoken word, the sounds where resonance of the body is present.”1
the wreading library is an ever-growing collection of books, assembled by a few of the many hands involved in Guilherme Maggessi and Rafał Morusiewicz’s ongoing artistic-research project W/ri/gh/ting Archives through Artistic Research (PEEK AR716). For the occasion of Volkskundemuseum’s second micro festival, we bring together printed matter that provides resources for practices of resistance or their documents.
The title of our library is inspired by the idea of wreading, conceptualized by American scholar Jed Rasula as “the collaborative momentum initiated by certain texts … in which the reader is enlisted as an agent of the writing.”2
The library’s contents were curated by Maggessi, Morusiewicz, and Ruby Sircar in the context of their seminar An overhead shot of gloved hands opening an acid-free box (Master in Critical Studies, SS 2025). While some of the books stem from Maggessi & Morusiewicz’s project library, most of them were handpicked by Siddhartha Lokanandi (Hopscotch Reading Room, Berlin) for the course. A few of the books stem from the project’s cooperating institutions (queerANarchive and QWIEN – Zentrum für queere Geschichte), as well as from collaborating artist Claire Lefèvere, who provided the library with some of the books used in her stage work “FULL MELT DOWN.”
